What is Recycled Tyre Fibre?
Recycled Tyre Fibre (RTF) is a by-product extracted during the mechanical shredding of end-of-life tyres. When tyres are processed for rubber granulate or Tyre-Derived Fuel (TDF), residual fibre materials—comprising nylon, polyester, and other textile components—are separated and collected.
RTF is non-rubber waste but can be repurposed in numerous industrial applications. The fibres are often baled and exported as a bulk recyclable material. Due to their high tensile strength and lightweight properties, RTF can be processed for reuse in insulation, carpet underlays, building composites, mats, oil absorption pads, and even geotextiles.
Properly managed, RTF enables tyre processors to minimise landfill outputs and increase overall recovery efficiency.
