What is Solid Recovered Fuel?
SRF is a high-quality alternative fuel produced by processing non-hazardous municipal, industrial, or commercial waste. It typically includes paper, cardboard, textiles, wood, and plastics — sorted and shredded to create a consistent fuel product with specified energy content and composition.
SRF is mainly used in industrial kilns and cement plants where it helps to reduce fossil fuel dependence and meet carbon reduction goals. When produced to a recognised specification (such as CEN/TC 343), SRF provides a cleaner, more efficient energy stream than unprocessed refuse fuels.
SRF combustion also results in ash with lower sulphur and heavy metal content, making it a cleaner choice for waste-to-energy solutions.
