Tyre-Derived Fuel (TDF)

What is Tyre-Derived Fuel?

Tyre-Derived Fuel (TDF) is a high-energy solid fuel made from shredded end-of-life tyres (ELTs), often baled for easier transport and storage. It is used in various industrial combustion processes, especially in cement kilns, pulp and paper mills, and industrial boilers.

TDF typically consists of rubber, steel, and textile components. When properly processed and combusted, TDF provides a high calorific value comparable to or exceeding coal, making it a preferred alternative for industries aiming to reduce fuel costs and landfill dependency.

Because tyres are made from petroleum-based compounds, they deliver strong combustion energy while also helping to reduce stockpiled tyre waste, which poses fire and environmental risks.
